The fight in multiple corners for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), voting which was traveled on Thursday morning, is mainly between the BJP and the alliance of the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

He The Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) came together before the elections. and presented their candidates, while the Eknath ShindeThe Shiv Sena-led Shiv Sena and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) opted alone.

The United NCP controlled politics in the PMC until 2017, after which the BJP wrested power on its own, leading to a contest between the two to prove its supremacy in all subsequent elections.

Civic elections have gained importance in the current political landscape after the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections of 2024. Every political party, irrespective of its alliance, is trying to strengthen its base and gain control of local bodies.

The PMC election became more intriguing after the Ajit Pawar-led NCP formed a pre-poll alliance with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP). This collaboration aims to present a strong challenge to the BJP, which has been expanding its influence in Punethe hometown of the Pawar family.

The NCP alliance has promised free travel in PMPML bus and metro. On this, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis He previously said: “I don’t want to criticize anyone, but they are giving assurances without any guarantee of fulfilling them.”

Responding, Ajit Pawar said, “Those raising doubts about the promise should remember who Ajit Pawar is, with his vast experience in running the state Finance Ministry. They are not worried about their economy, but they fear losing political control in Pune.”

The BJP campaign, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, sought votes for city development while taking on the NCP-NCP (SP) alliance to field candidates with criminal records and to ensure free rides to citizens in the Pune metro and public transport buses.

The NCP front, led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, criticized the BJP for failing to deliver development results during the previous terms. However, through his election manifesto, which promised a host of benefits if he came to power, he upset the leaders of the rival BJP.

On the other hand, the Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT) and the MNS took the stance that voting for the NCP is effectively voting for the BJP, as both were allies at the state and national levels.

The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena campaign, led by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, criticized the BJP for underestimating its party by offering too few seats in a pre-poll alliance, leading the Sena to go it alone in the polls.
