Schools in Pune Cantonment to remain closed on January 21 for Stage 2 of Pune Grand Tour | Pune News

Both private and government-run schools in the Pune Cantonment area will remain closed on Wednesday, January 21 due to road closure for Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour 2026.

The race route will begin from the Ladies Club of Pune Camp and pass through key roads in the jurisdiction of Pune Cantonment before moving towards Bopdev Ghat.

On Tuesday, Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi issued a notification to this effect. Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour covers 109 kilometers with an elevation profile of 1,466 metres. The stage will be held in Pune, Purandar, Rajgad and Haveli areas of Pune district, regions known for their rugged terrain.

The notification issued by district collector Dudi said, “Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour will start from Ladies Club and take the route via East Street, Khanya. Maruti Chowk, Pulgate, Solapur bazaar Chowky, Golibar Maidan, Lullarnagar Chowk, Jyoti Hotel Chowk, Khadi Machine, Yewalewadi before moving towards Bopdev Ghat. Considering the inconvenience this will cause to private and public schools in the area, it is necessary that they remain closed on January 21.”

“Under the powers of the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority and as per the powers given by the Department of School Education and Sports, January 21 has been declared a holiday for private and government schools in Pune Cantonment area on January 21 for Leg 2 of the Pune Grand Tour.”

When contacted, Dudi clarified that the holiday has been declared only for schools in the area and not for universities.

According to the official website of the tour, Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour will end at the Ladies Club at 12.30 pm on Wednesday and is expected to conclude around 3.40 pm at Nanded City.

“Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour is a carefully curated track where riders will find themselves pedaling through the diverse geography of the Pune district. It is a call to ride over hills and forts on a track with steep gradients, twists and turns that challenge at every turn,” states the event website.
