Pune PMC Election Results 2026, Pune Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026 Highlights: In the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the BJP won 119 seats out of 165 and in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), it got 84 seats out of 128. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP was relegated to the second position and in the process proved no match for the BJP. NCP leaders said the massive defeat in Pune and Pimpri was unexpected.
Pawar Faction Coup: Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar came together in these polls to present a “united NCP”. However, the loss not only dented the Pawars’ influence but has now also raised questions about their political future. The BJP’s continued expansion in the Assembly and civic bodies in Maharashtra could affect them in the coming years. Although the BJP had been part of alliances that had majorities in the previous terms of the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad from 2017 to 2022, this election marks the first time the party has come to power on its own.

BJP’s biggest gain in Maharashtra: Across the state, the BJP on Friday underlined its position of preeminence in Maharashtra politics, emerging as the largest party in 19 of the 29 municipal corporations or nearly two-thirds that went to polls the previous day. In the process, the party surpassed its 2017 record of winning 15 municipal corporations. The BJP achieved victory BombayNagpur, Pune, Sangli, Nashik, Akola, Dhule, Jalgaon, Solapur, Ulhasnagar, Ichalkaranji, Jalna, Nanded, Kalyan-Dombivali, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander and Kolhapur. He finished second or third in 10 municipal corporations including Thane, Chandrapur, Malegaon, Ahilyanagar, Vasai-Virar, Bhiwandi, Parbhani, Latur, Panvel and Amravati.
