Pune Grand Tour: Medical teams stepped up care for 164 riders and treated over 50 for minor injuries | Pune News

like him Pune Grand Tour– A historic multi-day road race comes to a close on January 23, a full Ruby Hall Clinic team has been actively involved to ensure the medical safety of 164 riders.

During the big crash on Bajaj Stage 1 Pune Grand Tour near the village of Kolvan, teams from Ruby Hall Clinic, who are medical partners in the cycling event, treated around 23 injured cyclists at the scene.

A chain-reaction crash involving about 70 cyclists was triggered by a sharp curve and a narrowing road, with medical teams responding immediately, said Behram Khodaiji, chief executive of the Ruby Hall Clinic.

While one of the cyclists injured during the crash had broken a tooth, another had to receive stitches in his hand. However, they are stable, Dr Ashish Nandy, head of the department. Accident and Emergency Medicine, Ruby Hall Clinic said and added that ever since the entire contingent of riders arrived in Pune from January 16, their teams have been committed to the welfare of the athletes.

“We are running medical wards in four hotels where the teams stayed. During the practice sessions they suffered abrasions and were treated,” Dr Nandy said. He recalled that a cyclist from Mauritius had fever before coming to India and while he was medically examined, tests were conducted to rule out any major problem,” he added.

In total, over the last five or six days more than 50 cyclists have been treated with minor injuries.

A cyclist from Bulgaria. who suffered a mild headache during the days of the race, was treated and kept under observation. “The cyclist refused further tests that were offered as a precautionary measure,” Dr Nandy added.

PGT will be one of the most important races in Asia: race director

Jamaludin Bin Mahmood, race director of the Pune Grand Tour, said history is being made here at the Tour of Pune and he believes the PGT will be one of the biggest races in Asia. “The security is good and the people are welcoming,” Mahmood said. Organized by the Pune district administration, Government of Maharashtra, under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of India, the grueling 437 km route passes through diverse terrains of the Deccan Plateau and Sahyadri Range and has seen the participation of 164 elite cyclists from 28 teams from various countries.
