Almost a month after the death of his wife in a traffic accident in Pune, the guitarist’s husband is accused of negligence | Pune News

Pune city police on Saturday arrested a guitarist on charges of negligence in connection with a road accident in which his wife died last month.

According to police, Sherly Anthony, 37, a resident of Kondhwa Gate in Uttam Nagar area of Pune city, died after the motorcycle being ridden by her husband met with an accident around 2.40 pm on January 2 at the Chowk vegetable market in Uttam Nagar.

Initially, police registered a report of accidental death at Uttam Nagar station.

Sub-inspector Chetan Dhanawade said, “The husband of the deceased woman, identified as Robin, was driving the motorcycle. Our investigation revealed that due to negligent driving, the motorcycle slipped while overtaking a truck. The truck ran over his wife, who was sitting as a passenger on the motorcycle.”

“An offense has been registered against the husband under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 281 and 125(b) as well as sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Motor Vehicles Act. He is a guitarist and had moved to Pune from Jabalpur about three months ago. He had also received minor injuries in the mishap. We have not arrested him. Further investigation is underway,” Dhanawade added.

The complainant in the case is police officer Sachin Gaikwad.

In another accident, a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus traveling at high speed ran over an elderly woman who was crossing the road near Bremen Chowk in Aundh around 9.15 pm on Friday.

Police identified the woman as Chandrakala Dnyanoba Wavhal, 75, a resident of Indira Vasahat on Ganeshkhind Road in Aundh. Her neighbor Prabhavati Bhosale, 74, lodged a complaint at Chaturshringi police station.

Sub-inspector Manisha Jadhav said police arrested PMPML bus driver Pandurang Raymale under sections 281, 125(b) and 106 of BNS as well as sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The court later released him on bail, police said.
