Ahead of Pune civic polls, cash worth Rs 1 lakh, empty envelopes and voter list were seized from 2 SUVs; shows in | Pune News

The Pune police and the Election Commission’s flying squad seized cash worth Rs 1 lakh, over 300 empty envelopes and a voter list from two SUVs in the city’s Yewalewadi area on Tuesday night ahead of the civic elections.

According to the Pune According to police, an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the cash and determine the candidate or political party to whom it was supposedly intended to be distributed.

“The seized items suggest that the cash was meant to be distributed to voters. The FST and the returning officer’s office will conduct an investigation into the seizure to ascertain the origin of the cash and ascertain the candidate or political party to whom it was allegedly meant to be distributed,” said a senior Pune city police officer.

Police said the seizures were made from two locked vans parked in Khadimachine area of ​​Pune city.

Around 9pm on Tuesday, a team from Yewalewadi police station responded to a report of a violation of the model code of conduct in the Khadimachine area.

“Accordingly, the information was conveyed to the Flying Squad Team (FST) formed for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, and a team from Yewalewadi police station was sent to the spot. According to the information received, at Khadimachine Chowk, two locked vehicles were found,” a Pune city police officer said.

“Upon thorough inspection of both the suspect vehicles by the Flying Squad Team (FST), two bundles of Rs 500 notes totaling Rs 1 lakh were found in the first car. Various items including a voter list, 255 white and 80 khaki empty envelopes, 21 small notebooks, eight large notebooks and other items were found in the second car,” the officer added.

The officer said a panchnama, the official record of seizure and inspection, was held in this regard and the Flying Squad team informed the returning officer. “Further legal action is being taken,” the official added.
