‘After Navi Mumbai International Airport, Purandar will emerge as a major alternative for Pune’: Murlidhar Mohol | Pune News

The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved a loan of Rs 6,000 crore for land acquisition for the Upcoming Purandar Airport in Punewhich, according to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, will be a “game-changer for the IT sector, industry, agri-exports, tourism and corporates.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the establishment of a special purpose vehicle to facilitate the rising debt of Purandar airport.

The financing will be raised through a joint loan from the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC), the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), with guarantees from the state government.

Fadnavis announced that the The cabinet has approved land acquisition for Purandar airport and directed the administration to complete it by 2026. Around 1,216 hectares across seven villages need to be acquired for this greenfield airport project.

The SPV was established to execute the airport project, with CIDCO having a 51 percent stake, followed by PMRDA and MIDC with 15 percent each, and MADC with a 19 percent stake. The Cabinet also decided that the repayment of the loan would be the responsibility of the SPV partners in proportion to their respective shareholdings.

Welcoming the development, Mohol said, “Purandar airport will improve air connectivity and be a game-changer for the IT sector, industry, agricultural exports, tourism and corporates.”

“After the Navi Bombay Purandar International Airport will emerge as an important alternative for Pune and western Maharashtra, improving passenger traffic and cargo handling capacity,” added Mohol, who represents Pune in the Lok Sabha.

“Most farmers have agreed to give up their land for the upcoming airport,” said Fadnavis, announcing the creation of a new industrial estate in Indapur, which involves the transfer of 1,000 acres of land to the MIDC.

While talking to him indian expressPune Collector Jitendra Dudi said, “The funds are expected to be received very soon. As soon as we receive them, we will start distributing compensation to farmers. And we will try to complete the process by May-end.”

The government’s latest offer to farmers was 1 million rupees per acre, but farmers have demanded a significantly higher rate.

“Starting from the first week of March, we will start a financial management drive in collaboration with Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics for farmers whose land has been acquired for Purandar airport and they will receive compensation,” Dudi added.
