The Pune City and Pimpri Chinchwad police have prepared for the PMC and PCMC polls on Thursday. The two neighboring units have carried out a security deployment made up of nearly 21,000 troops, including police officers, national guards and companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF).
Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations are among the civic bodies in Maharashtra that will go to polls on Thursday and counting for the same will take place on Friday. The three police jurisdictions had previously communicated a preliminary plan for the deployment of the force, which received final approval from a committee comprising electoral officials, the district administration and senior police officials.
The Pune City Police contingent consists of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP), 37 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP), including 7 Probationary ACPs, 166 Police Inspectors, 723 Deputy Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, 12,500 constables, 3,250 home guards and four companies of SRPF comprising 400 personnel. The Pune city police area was divided into 88 sectors and 100 sensitive places were identified. The total number of officers and personnel deployed by Pune police stands at around 17,090.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police contingent comprises one joint commissioner of police, two additional commissioners of police, eight DCPs, 18 ACPs, 50 police inspectors, 241 deputy inspectors and sub-inspectors, 3,750 constables, two companies and two platoons of SRPF comprising 260 personnel. 10 sensitive places have been identified in the jurisdiction. The total number of officers and personnel in the Pimpri Chinchwad police deployment is 4,330.
Both police jurisdictions have undertaken a series of preventive actions in the run-up to the elections.
These included actions against illegal activities, including the illegal alcohol business and narcotics trafficking.
During the Model Code of Conduct period, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad police seized Rs 67 lakh and Rs

16 lakh respectively in cash. Both police units took our marches from sensitive locations.
Preventive measures were also taken against several story authors during the same period.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey said, “The police and election machinery are fully prepared for the peaceful conduct of elections. Strict possible action will be taken against those who interfere with the election process.”
