Unidentified persons fired five shots outside director Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu around 12:45 pm on Sunday, police said. The director was at his residence when the shooting occurred, however, no one was injured, they added.
Following the incident, heavy security measures were deployed outside the director’s house. An officer said the shooters fired five shots and fled the scene. The security guard outside the multi-storey bungalow alerted the director, who then contacted the police. An FIR has been registered at Juhu police station under sections of the Arms Act. Police found bullet casings at the scene.
A senior officer said, “Both the zonal police and crime branch are investigating the matter. As of now, there is no clarity on the reason for the dismissal.” The official added that the director had not received threats recently.
An officer said they were reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine how the accused got to the bungalow. Sources said they obtained certain CCTV footage which provided some clues about the accused. A team from the ballistics department of the Forensic Science Laboratory also reached the crime scene and collected evidence, an officer added.
“We will record a detailed statement from the principal. Our teams are scanning the CCTV cameras and are trying to get eyewitnesses to shed some light on the incident,” the officer said.
Shetty shares a good relationship with Bombay police, attending various functions organized by them. The director of films like Golmaal has also relied on the Mumbai Police to conduct investigations for his films.
In November, a special court charged five defendants arrested for shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s house in Bandra, who will face trial for offenses including attempt to murder and relevant sections of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act.
