Amid renewed political speculation over a possible reunification of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions, party founder Sharad Pawar on Tuesday distanced himself from recent developments and claimed that several of the reported decisions were internal matters of the Ajit Pawar-led faction and were not discussed with his group.
Addressing reporters, Pawar clarified that the discussions on possible merger of the two factions of the PCN had been traveling but now seem uncertain.
“For the last four months, Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil were discussing the issue of merger of two parties. Now the unfortunate accident has occurred. It seems that the process will be disrupted,” Pawar said, indicating that recent developments may halt reconciliation efforts between the factions.
He acknowledged that senior leaders on both sides had previously engaged in talks. “Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil and Shashikant Shinde were involved in the merger talks,” Pawar said.
However, Pawar maintained that several recent decisions attributed to the party’s unified structure were internal matters of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
“The decision to select Sunetra Pawar as legislative party leader is an internal matter of the NCP,” he said.
Respond to reports that suggest Sunetra Pawar could be appointed deputy chief ministerPawar said he had no information about such developments. “I am not aware of Sunetra Pawar being selected as deputy CM. It must be an internal matter of the NCP. I am reading some names like Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare in the newspaper. They must have decided it for their party,” he said.

He further stated that there had been no communication between the factions about future political developments. “There was no discussion with anyone about future developments between the NCP and NCP-SP,” Pawar said.
On reports of an upcoming swearing-in ceremony, Pawar expressed surprise and said his camp was not aware of any such plans. “I have no idea about the swearing-in and I found out about it through the news. How can we be there? We don’t know. It is also not known whether the swearing-in will take place or not,” he added when asked if any member of the Pawar family would attend the event.
