Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said a new hiring process will soon be implemented in the state and that more than 70,000 positions will be filled in phases, including approximately 50,000 positions through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) and 20,000 positions outside the purview of the MPSC.

Fadnavis directed that any decision regarding recruitment be based on required skills, rules of entry into service, eligibility and nature of work.

A meeting on reforming service entry rules was held on Monday, which was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal along with all additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and administration secretaries.

The Chief Minister stated that comprehensive administrative reforms must be implemented quickly in all key departments. “Priority will be given to human resource management and transparency in the recruitment process. A decision on revising rules of entry into state government service will be taken soon in a cabinet meeting,” he said. Fadnavis highlighted that the General Administration Department is not merely formal but is vital to the entire government procurement system and the efficiency of various departments will increase significantly once these 70,000 posts are filled.

The Chief Minister noted that the manpower management model introduced by the Maharashtra government in the Council of Chief Ministers, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, received high praise, and informed that Prime Minister Modi directed other states to adopt this reform model, establishing Maharashtra as a guide for the country in administrative reforms.

To avoid unnecessary procedures, long queues and delays, CM Fadnavis emphasized on developing a digital and online verification model. He suggested that if online verification is possible for sensitive documents such as passports, a similar model should be used for other processes and each department should make arrangements to provide certificates through DigiLocker and blockchain technology.
