Police in Satara, Maharashtra, on Wednesday arrested a Navi Mumbai police constable and three of his aides for allegedly murdering a man who was allegedly courting a woman with whom the constable was in a relationship.
Satara police said Bandu Bhise, 49, attached to the Rabale MIDC police station, strangled Somnath Bobade, 30, in Kalamboli, took the body in a car to a Satara village, 200 kilometers away, where it was set on fire and dumped in a farm well.
A police officer said the farm owner in Sukhed village in Satara saw the partially burnt body on February 6 and alerted them. The officer told the local Lonand police station that he later registered a case of murder based on the initial medical report.
Police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. They also questioned several car owners. During investigation, they identified Bhise’s vehicle on camera at Khed-Shivpur toll plaza and called him for questioning on Tuesday.
During his interrogation, he revealed the names of the three involved in the crime: Vijay Pawar, 36 years old; Kiran Gaikwad, 27 years old; and Srinivas Lone, 25 years old.
Further investigation revealed that Bhise planned the murder after learning that Bobade was trying to woo a woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair. He called Bobade on the pretext of resolving the matter in Kalamboli and allegedly murdered him on February 6 with the help of the other three accused.
An officer said Bobade worked as a taxi driver.

The officer added that the woman with whom Bhise was in a relationship had been previously married but was currently separated from her husband. The police will record his statement in the case.
Police said the accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody.
