Mumbai Suburban Railway: ICF to manufacture 15-coach EMU trains for CR and WR; 2 automatic gate rakes in FY26 | Mumbai News

Mumbai Suburban Railway Network: The Mumbai Suburban Railway Network A major upgrade is due to be made with the introduction of new local trains this year. Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) plans to manufacture 15-coach EMU trains for Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR)along with two EMU rakes equipped with automatic doors in the financial year 2025-26.

Mumbai Suburban Railway Upgrade

Addressing the attendees at the 77th Republic Day celebrations held at the M Arun Sports Complex (ICF Stadium), General Manager U Subba Rao highlighted the achievements and future plans of the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF). He said that during the ongoing exercise, ICF plans to manufacture three 15-coach EMU train rakes for Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR), along with two EMU rakes equipped with automatic doors.

“During the current financial year, ICF plans to manufacture three 15-coach EMU rakes for CR and WR and two EMU rakes with automatic doors,” Rao said.

Introduction of 15-car EMU trains for Central Railway and Western Railway

The 15-car EMU trains for Central Railway and Western Railway are expected to ease congestion on some of the busiest suburban corridors. Both zonal railways are working on expanding platforms to accommodate longer trains.

Two EMU trains with automatic door rakes over suburban Mumbai

The ICF will also manufacture two Non-AC suburban trains equipped with Automatic Door Closing system. These EMU rakes will have Automatic Doors, Lobbies, Roof Mounted Ventilation Unit and Louvered Doors for air circulation.

Currently, AC EMUs with automatic door closing system are operating in the suburban network of Mumbai. Apart from this, the Ministry of Railways has also authorized the deployment of 238 rakes of 12 coaches each on the Mumbai suburban railway network.
