Massive copying detected on day 1 of HSC exam at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar center | Mumbai News

A case of massive copying was detected on Tuesday, the first day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Class 12 Examinationat an examination center in Jaitapur village of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

An FIR was registered with the local police against 24 people, including the school principal and supervisors, based on a complaint by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

The state board has replaced all staff at the center to ensure that the remaining exams can be conducted without interruption. Actions have also been initiated to suspend the members of the staff present at the center, who had been designated to avoid malpractices during the exams.

The incident occurred during the English paper, the first examination of the HSC schedule, at a center in Jaitapur village in Kannad taluka.

According to details of the FIR, CCTV footage of the centre’s classrooms revealed cases of mass copying, including the involvement of supervisors.

In classrooms 1 through 14, supervisors were allegedly seen distributing microphotocopies containing answers to questions from the day’s newspaper.

The images also showed the students sitting together while writing their answers, according to the FIR.

Confirming the action taken, Maharashtra State Board acting chairman Nandkumar Bedse said, “It is a serious case of negligence during the examination and therefore appropriate strict action is being taken. The FIR includes the names of all the staff of that particular examination centre, including the center director. Whereas we have now initiated measures to suspend the sitting team members, present at the centre, who are appointed to prevent cheating and other malpractices during the examinations.”

On the first day of the HSC exam, a total of 42 cases of negligence were reported across Maharashtra. Of the nine divisions under the state board, Amravati recorded the highest number with 22 cases, followed by 10 in the Pune division. BombayKolhapur and Konkan were the only three divisions where no copying cases were reported on the first day.
