Nearly 10 cottages were affected after a fire broke out inside New Gautam Nagar in eastern Mumbai’s Govandi suburbs on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported in the fire which was extinguished almost three hours later.
The incident was reported at 10.01 am inside New Gautam Nagar along Sonapur Lane near Jijamata temple on Bhim Wadi road in Govandi. He Bombay The Fire Department (MFB) declared the fire level I, which indicates a minor fire call, at 10:23 a.m.
While preliminary details provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that the fire was confined to four huts, it eventually spread to eight to ten huts in the area.
Although the fire was minor, the residents of the area suffered losses as the flames damaged household items such as furniture, ceiling fans and false ceilings, in addition to affecting wiring and electrical installations, among other objects. However, authorities maintained that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Soon after the fire was reported, the Mumbai Fire Brigade pressed its personnel to control the fire, while officials from the Mumbai Police, ward staff, electricity distribution company staff and ambulances were also pressed at the spot.
The fire was extinguished at 1:10 p.m.
