Three people were injured after a level one the fire broke out and spread at an industrial estate in Ghatkopar on Tuesday morning. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly three hours before it was brought under control in the afternoon.
The incident was reported at 10.22 am at Narayan Nagar, opposite Mahendra Hospital in Ghatkopar West. According to preliminary information, the fire originated on the second floor of a two-story industrial estate and was declared a level one fire at 10:42 a.m.
Authorities said the flames were limited to electrical installations and items such as wiring, fans, irons, steamers, furniture, sewing machines, clothing, steel shelves and office files stored in store number 209, spread over an area of about 1,000 square feet.
Three people suffered burn injuries and were rushed to Rajawadi Civic Hospital. The injured were identified as Riyazuddin (30), Valayat Ali (50) and Haddis Ali (51). Riyazuddin suffered critical injuries with 60 percent burns, while Valayat and Haddis suffered 3 percent and 30 percent burns, respectively. According to medical officials, the three applied for discharge against the medical advice (DAMA) of the hospital in the afternoon.
Firefighters said the fire was completely extinguished at 1:05 p.m. Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade participated in the firefighting operation, with support from the Mumbai Police, the local civic district office and the electricity distribution company.
