Sriya Saranwho is currently appearing in the series Space Gen Chandrayaan, recently spoke about how pregnancy is an emotional phase not only for women but also for men who are starting to become fathers. The actress also opened up about the struggles her co-stars Nakuul Mehta and Danish Sait experienced while their wives were going through pregnancies.
Shriya Saran on the challenges of pregnancy
In a conversation with News 18, Shriya recalled her experience with perinatal depression and spoke at length about the emotional and physical changes a woman undergoes during pregnancy. He described how transformative and overwhelming this phase can be.
“When a wife gets pregnant, a lot of things happen in her body. You are creating another child and it is the most beautiful experience. But you are changing emotionally and physically and your organs are compressed. Sometimes you have this crazy burst of emotions. You don’t even know what is happening with your body. Just walking around with a child in your body… your body looks like someone else’s. Over time, you become a cow (laughs),” he said.
Shriya also highlighted the emotional support a woman needs from her partner during this time, while acknowledging how unprepared men often are for these changes.
“All this time, a man is supposed to be there and take care of you. There are also a lot of things that you are not prepared for. When I was pregnant, sometimes I used to feel so depressed and say things that I didn’t mean. There are times when you feel so needy that you want your man to be around. And then you also need to be at work.”

Shriya Saran also revealed that her Space Gen Chandrayaan Co-actors Nakuul Mehta and Danish Sait were on the brink of parenthood while filming the series. Sharing behind-the-scenes moments, Shriya explained how the demands of work often clashed with her responsibilities at home.
“Danish was filming and may have missed a lot of appointments. I’m sure he felt that guilt somewhere. During filming, Nakuul’s wife was also expecting a second time. Imagine what it was like for Jankee! She was already taking care of one child and was pregnant with another. A lot of things were happening with Nakuul at work. He was very lost. He is a very generous actor. I’m sure at home he was thinking about work too. He missed an appointment or “Two,” he shared.

Shreya further pointed out that this phase is also emotionally demanding for men, an aspect that is often overlooked.
“It is also difficult for a man because he sees his wife go through a lot of changes and become a different person. And once she becomes a mother, she is a totally different human being. Not much credit is given to a man. There are a lot of things that he also goes through,” the Drishyam actor said.
Shriya Saran is married to Andrei Koscheev and the couple has a daughter, Radha. Dane Sait and his wife Anya welcomed a baby boy last year, while Nakuul Mehta and Jankee Parekh became parents for the second time in August last year.
