Indian cinema is currently celebrating some of its biggest and most revered names winning the Padma Awards for 2026. When the civil awards were announced on Sunday, on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, Bollywood icon Dharmendralegendary actor mammothveteran playback singer Alka Yagnik and noted actor-filmmaker R Madhavan received several Padma honors for their contributions to the field of arts.
Hema Malini on honoring Dharmendra with Padma Vibhushan
Hours after the announcement, Dharmendra’s second wife, veteran actress Hema Malini, reacted to his posthumous Padma Vibhushan. “I am very proud that the government has recognized Dharam hee immense contribution to the film industry by awarding him the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award,” he wrote on Instagram.

Hema mentioned that he truly deserves the honor and noted that Dharmendra was also a “living institution of Indian cinema.” She told the news agency. PTI“He represents the soul of India, its emotions, traditions and humanity. Honoring him with the Padma Vibhushan would be a proud recognition of an extraordinary life of service to art and the nation.” Hema Malini is also a BJP MP representing Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Mammootty says he is ‘extremely happy’ for Padma Bhushan’s honor
talking to Mathrubhumi NewsPadma Bhushan recipient Mammootty said: “Santosham, athi santhosham (I am happy, extremely happy). There is nothing greater than the honor of the country.” Praising Mammootty, Malayalam superstar and Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Mohanlal wrote on social media: “Ichakka, absolutely delighted to know that you have been conferred with the Padma Bhushan. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart. Wishing you continued grace and glory.”
Legendary actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan also congratulated Mammootty and wrote aboutKopperuncholayar Pisiranthaiyar‘for many years. It occurs to me now that we both could have seen each other in person a little more often. As a fan of Mammootty, I hope my fans are also his fans.”

Playback singer Alka Yagnik, who was also honored with the Padma Bhushan, said Hindustan Times“I want to thank the government for granting me this prestigious honor. And of course, I really want to thank all my listeners for their unconditional love.”

In a long post on Instagram, Madhavan expressed his joy at receiving the Padma Shri. “I accept the award with deep gratitude and humility. This honor bestowed upon me is beyond my wildest dreams, and I receive it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength. This recognition is only possible due to the blessings of my mentors, the goodwill of my well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and above all, the grace of the Almighty. Each of them has played an invaluable role in shaping my journey and guiding me towards this moment.”
