Shahid Kapoor starrer Oh Romeo He recently landed in trouble after Sanober Shaikh, Hussain Ustara’s daughter, raised objections to the film. He has now sought a permanent injunction against the release of Vishal Bharadwaj’s upcoming action thriller. On Monday, Sanober filed a suit in a Mumbai civil court, alleging that the film is an “unauthorized” biopic of his late father and falsely portrays his life.
Shaikh’s suit claims that Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishal Bhardwaj are “involved in the production and direction of a film based on the biography of his late father.” He further alleged: “The film O’ Romeo was being produced with the intention of commercial and monetary gain and the prior consent of the plaintiff (Sanober Shaikh) had not been obtained.” The court is scheduled to hear the matter on February 6.
Lawyer DV Saroj, who filed the suit, also claimed that O Romeo is based on the life of Sanober Shaikh’s father and portrays him as a “gangster”. The lawsuit noted that she fears that the film’s release could cause “irreparable harm” to her and her children, who, she said, have “every right to live in the world in peace and in a healthy atmosphere.”
The lawsuit further stated, “The release of the film containing a false representation would have serious implications for plaintiffs’ family members.”
Ustara’s daughter also claimed that her father had helped prevent crimes across India and in Bombay cooperating with the police to catch criminals. Sanober added that the producer and director were “exploiting a human tragedy for commercial gain” and that releasing the film in theaters could “stain the character of a dead person.”
The civil suit was filed against Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of O Romeo, director Vishal Bharadwaj and journalist and author Hussain Zaidi.
Earlier, while talking to Hindustan Times in an interview, Sanober had said, “They are stating and showing incorrect things about my father. They say that we threatened them and asked for Rs 2 crore from them. That is wrong. They are making such claims for publicity of the film. We have sent them a legal notice.”
