The night of January 23 was a dream come true for all Indian fans of rock band Linkin Park, as the group performed their first concert in the country. Held in Bengaluru, around 40,000 people turned up to sing the band’s greatest hits. While it was bittersweet for many old fans since Chester Bennington wasn’t there, new singer Emily Armstrong stole all hearts with her performance and her choice of outfit.
Emily took to the stage for the first time in an all-blue outfit and later revealed that she is wearing an Indian cricket jersey underneath, with her name written on the back. The fans were elated with this gesture as they screamed their hearts out while singing songs from the new album. Mike Shinoda, one of the band’s founding members, pulled out all the stops while performing classics like ‘In The End’ and ‘Numb’.
Emily could later be seen wearing an Assamese Gamusa, which is a white cotton cloth adorned with red motifs and designs. The gesture could probably be a tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s defining artists. Zubeen also received recognition when Post Malone came to perform in Guwahati, while the singer expressed his gratitude to the people of the city. Going back to the LP concert, Shinoda could be seen approaching the crowd during the concert. He stood on the barricade as fans around him tried to see him.
A fan also came on stage and before security could escort him back, he hugged Shinoda, who was completely surprised. The musician could later be seen waving the Indian flag while the entire audience continued chanting the band’s name. They will be joined by artists such as Kehlani, Bloodywood, Calum Scott, Karsh Kale, Sammy Virji and more.
While LP headlines the second day of Lollapalooza, the first day (January 24) will be headlined by rapper Playboy Carti. The Atlanta rapper will be joined by artists such as Yungblud, Fujii Kaze, Ankur Tewari, Knock2, Girasol Tape Machine and more.
