Kapil SharmaAmritsar’s journey to becoming one of the country’s most loved comedians is one worthy of books. Kapil has gone through several ups and downs – from losing his father in 2004 and struggling in the years that followed, to finding success on television, becoming a household name, falling into depression at the age of 36, facing controversies and rebuilding both his career and life. In a recent interaction, the comedian spoke about the void left in his life by his father’s absence, admitting that certain milestones make him miss his father even more.

Kapil Sharma on missing his father

In a conversation with ETimes, Kapil Sharma shared that he still misses his father. “The past never changes. Those who are gone will not come back. When I won the trophy and received a check of Rs 10 lakh, I cried thinking… if my father was here today,” he said.

Recalling another moment, Kapil shared how he once stood silently outside his house when his show started, hearing laughter from all the nearby homes. “I thought, if Dad were alive, how happy he would be. I miss him every day, but some moments are stronger,” she said.

At 36, Kapil Sharma fell into depression.

Kapil Sharma also spoke about a number of phases that shaped him in different ways – his childhood, how life went sideways after his father’s death in 2004 and how television later gave him a second chance, but success did not shield him from his personal struggles.

“At 36, depression hit me hard and I completely collapsed. People started saying, ‘It’s over,'” he recalled.

The phase, Kapil Sharma admitted, was emotionally draining. However, over time things began to change. She got married, her show returned to the air, and she eventually completed over 300 episodes after her return.

In a biographical film about his life.

Addressing the ongoing speculations about a biopic on his life, Kapil Sharma made it clear that such a project is not on the cards at the moment. He explained that although there has been interest from producers, he does not believe it is the right time.

According to the comedian, he has only recently begun to truly understand life and believes that making a biographical film at this point is premature. For him, the journey is still underway and there are still many chapters to be written.

“I don’t want the kids to think I just did a meaningless job.”

The actor and comedian also said that he wants his children to grow up feeling proud of the work he has done and that is why he is attracted to projects that offer emotional or social depth, even if they do not promise big box office returns.
