Imran Khan has been open about his relationships, his divorce from wife Avantika Malik and sharing custody of his daughter Imara. In a recent interaction, Imran revealed that his daughter lives with him. Thursday to Sunday since he separated from his wife seven years ago. She shared that in all these years she has never hired a babysitter or any other type of help, and says she immensely values the time she spends with her daughter.
Speaking to The Times of India, Imran said that it has been seven years since their separation and that he has been raising his daughter as a single father. During this time, he has never hired staff. “I’m just talking about what I get out of my value, what I consider valuable to me. I value my time with her,” he said.
He added that he drops her off at school and doesn’t want anyone else to take her to school or put her to bed at night. He said he wants to spend that time with her, something he wants and he won’t give it to anyone else. She says she doesn’t have a babysitter or a driver or a person who does those things when she is with him. “My ex-wife and I have joint custody. From Thursday to Sunday, she is with me. I put her to bed, I read to her at night, I get her up in the morning, I make dabba for her, I take her to school and I pick her up from school. Because this is the most valuable thing to me,” he said.
Imran also shared that he is not sure how to address Lekha Washington, whether as a girlfriend or as a couple, as they are now in their 40s. When asked if his second relationship had helped him react better to situations and handle relationship difficulties more maturely, he responded: “I can’t take credit for that. She’s my partner… my girlfriend… Lekha. I don’t know what the right terminology is to call her now that we’re 40.”
Crediting Lekha for the stability of their relationship, he said that it has been a tremendous learning about what a healthy partnership looks like and what a healthy interpersonal interaction looks like. He said that both of them could share their thoughts and come to a common consensus, and that no blood would be shed. She called it tremendously nutritious, healing and valuable, it is she who brings that, my evolution has been reacting to it in the correct way.
