‘I won’t sing until women feel safe’: Dhurandhar singer Jasmine Sandlas stops concert, asks security to throw out men who misbehave during performance | Music news

The question of security Women in public places, especially during music concerts.has been gaining more attention with India’s growing “gig economy.” Many artists and fans have criticized Indian concerts for being extremely unsafe for women. Recently, Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas stopped her concert in Delhi midway to point out two men who were misbehaving with women in the crowd.

The ‘Shararat’ singer recently performed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The entire crowd was impressed by her entry, as she was seated on a palki (palanquin) and dressed in traditional Indian attire. While the singer was reviewing her discography, she noticed two men in the crowd making the women around them uncomfortable. The singer quickly stopped her performance and signaled the men to security.

She could be seen on stage saying, “Security! Can you get these two guys out? They’re bothering the women.” She then turned to the crowd in front of her and said in Punjabi: “I will not sing until women feel safe.” This received thunderous applause from the crowd who cheered the singer as the men in question were escorted out of the crowd.

An equally disturbing incident took place during singer Kanika Kapoor’s concert in Meghalaya. In the video that went viral on social networks you can see a man, who crossed the barricades and went on stage to grab Kanika. The singer’s fans and other users on social media criticized the safety measures, as one user on Instagram wrote: “In India, women are not safe even on stage in front of several people with so much attention.”

Another wrote: “Agar Dubai mai karta toh 10 saal ki saja hoti (If he had done this in Dubai, he would have been jailed for 10 years).” Fans also applauded Jasmine for taking a stand during her concert. One user commented: “No foul language. No yelling. No drama. Basic civic appeal and a star hand. Kudos to her.”
