Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi married secretly in 1992 and welcomed their eldest son, Aaryamann, in 1994, but for the first few years, their journey to parenthood was extremely difficult, as Parmeet was completely “absent” and Archana “felt alone.” In a new vlog shared on his YouTube channel, Parmeet said that he had no idea that his life would completely change after welcoming a child. As soon as Parmeet said that, Archana asked, “How did your life change? Because for the first few years you were absent.”

Parmeet Sethi was a “very bad father”

Parmeet admitted that he was a “very bad father” and was “absent” during the early years of Aaryamann’s life. He confessed that until they had their second child, Ayushmaan, Parmeet would meet Aaryamann as a “guest appearance”. She also mentioned that her pregnancies were unplanned, but Archana shared that she really wanted a second child. She also recalled that she had her first child at 36 years old and her second at 39, which was “very old for a mother.”

Parmeet said that he came forward after Archana became pregnant for the second time and witnessed that the attention being showered on Aaryamann was diminishing, and would presumably diminish after the birth of the second baby. “I saw Aaryamann realize that the conversation had moved from him to someone else. That’s when I realized that he wouldn’t get as much attention and decided that I would take him under my wing. That’s when I started spending time with him, playing with him. I became his father in the true sense,” Parmeet shared.

Archana Puran Singh wondered why Parmeet Sethi didn’t share the burden

Archana then reminded Parmeet that just as he was quite oblivious to what a woman goes through during her pregnancy, he was also unaware of the needs of a new mother. “Just as you were not aware of what I was going through during my pregnancy, you did not pay attention to what a woman goes through after the baby. I was very weak during that time and you were surprised,” she said and recalled that she woke up at least six times during the night to check on the baby and feed him. “I thought, why doesn’t Bittu (Parmeet) share my burden? Then you convinced me, ‘What can I do? I can’t feed the baby,'” she shared.

Parmeet instantly confessed, “I didn’t help you. At least for the first 3 years of Aaryamann’s life, I didn’t help you at all. I only changed his diaper a couple of times, I admit.” She also admitted that she had no idea about postpartum and to this, Archana said that even she didn’t know much about it and didn’t know if she was going through it. “But I felt like I was alone. I was getting through everything, but then I was very fragile,” she said.

Parmeet Sethi says Archana Puran Singh ignored her duties as a wife after having children

Archana also recalled that once Parmeet got very upset when she refused to go out for dinner because she was too tired from taking care of the kids. “I remember it was our anniversary and I was putting the kids to bed. They were 3-4-5 then. And I was ready to go, but I was really lacking sleep because I was feeding them, doing their homework, and taking care of them. You said the table was reserved and you were so mad at me,” she recalled.

Parmeet recalls that during this phase, Archana simply refused to go out with him. “I understand that you wanted to be with the children but does the husband also exist or not?” he asked, adding that this was a “balancing act and you didn’t balance it, and that’s a fact.” He added that that was when they started having a lot of problems. “It was a very delicate situation between us,” he said.

‘You didn’t understand what a mother has to do’

While pointing this out, Archana asked why Parmeet didn’t understand the position she was in at that moment while juggling so many things at the same time. “You yourself said that you didn’t know what fatherhood was, so obviously you didn’t know what motherhood was. You didn’t know everything that a mother has to do,” she said, while Parmeet asked her, “What about being a wife? You didn’t understand being a wife.”

Archana maintained her stance and said that while she understood that Parmeet must have been hurt, for her, being a mother was a bigger responsibility at that time.
