A big part of Bollywood movies are the songs, which are usually a great spectacle. with intricate dance choreographies to back them up. One of the industry’s most prominent choreographers is Bosco Martis, and in a recent interview he talked about his experience working with Bollywood’s biggest stars. In particular, he talked about stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh and highlighted the unique quirks and idiosyncrasies that each brings to the set while filming song sequences.
While speaking to Mirchi Plus about some of the most challenging songs he has ever choreographed and filmed, Bosco had a long list. He started with a song from ‘Bang Bang’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif and said, “We had to wait 5 hours for the floor during the shooting of ‘Tu Meri’. But the idea was that the movements had to be… The floor, the gravity and the way the shoes were on had to be very soft. Hrithik is someone specifically who, until he feels comfortable in his shoes and on the floor, he cannot enjoy the song.”
He continued, “During ‘Kala Chashma’ (Baar Baar Dekho), We waited almost half a shift for Katrina’s costume. Initially it was a lehenga and then we came up with an outfit in which we could see her footwork. We wanted that to be visible. Then, for half a shift, all filming stopped, but I think it was worth it because you’ve seen what Kala Chashma has done. ‘Senorita’ is another difficult song because during the shooting of that song, Hrithik suffered extreme pain.”
Talking about Ranbir in particular, Bosco remembers the song ‘Tai Tai Phish’ from Chillar Party and said, “We filmed ‘Tai Tai Phish’ in just 6 hours because that’s all the time we had. It’s a really fun song that I did with Ranbir. He’s such a natural actor that you never get tired of watching him. What I mean by this is that watching him dance makes you feel like even you can dance; it makes you smile. The same power is with Govinda, because whenever you see him dance, you feel like you are dancing yourself. You feel extremely happy watching it, and that’s the beauty of these types of superstars.”
He then moved on to Ranvir and complimented the actor for his pain tolerance. He said, “Ranveer Singh is a ball of energy. Until he gets physically hurt, he feels like he hasn’t done anything. He cuts his hand and has scars on his face, and every time we shoot together, he always gets hurt. While shooting on the Howrah bridge, he cut his leg and had to get 6-7 stitches. But his energy never diminished and he kept dancing with his upper body. The audience only sees what he is showing them.”
