Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina Roshan has previously spoken at length about her struggle with alcohol addiction and how his brother played a crucial role in his journey to recovery. Now, once again, he has spoken openly about his experience, this time highlighting how recognizing the problem became the solution he had long sought. On Thursday, Sunaina took to Instagram to share a video of herself speaking directly to the camera, reflecting on her journey and the lessons she learned along the way.

Sunaina said: “The hardest thing I’ve ever done was admit that I have a problem, and that changed everything. Addiction can take many forms: food, alcohol, even habits. We don’t even realize we’re holding on to them. I had alcoholism and, at one point, an unhealthy relationship with sweets and even junk food. It wasn’t easy, but with the right mindset, a lot of support and the courage to talk about it, I was able to get through it.”

He continued to share what his recovery journey has taught him, emphasizing that healing is about progress rather than perfection. He added, “What I’ve learned is this: addiction doesn’t define you, but it demands that you face it. You don’t have to do it alone. Be aware, be strong, and remember, it’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. Take it one step at a time and don’t be afraid to seek support, any kind of support, in fact. If anyone you know needs to hear this, share it with them. I know you are unbreakable.”

After her post, Sunaina’s comments section was flooded with messages of gratitude from supporters, thanking her for speaking openly about a topic that often carries stigma. Hrithik Roshan also reacted to the post by writing, “I love you didi,” while his father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, commented, “It’s true, you are an inspiration.” Her mother, Pinkie Roshan, also expressed her support and wrote “Bravo.”

Earlier, in a conversation with Galatta India, Sunaina recalled the moment she realized she needed professional help. She said: “I started drinking slowly. For me, one can of beer probably turned into six cans of beer at a time. There were days I drank from morning to night. One day, I realized that I don’t remember what I had done the night before. So that was very scary. Imagine going to someone’s house and not remembering what you talked about. I would be scared the next morning.”

In another conversation with Pinkvilla, Sunaina also spoke about her time in rehab, where she underwent a 28-day addiction treatment program. Describing the experience, she said she was confined to a room and “interrogated” by six or seven counselors. “I didn’t sleep for 28 days. They just kept asking you questions one after the other, just getting everything out of your system. We had breakfast between 6 and 6:30. No perfumes, no sugar, no chocolates, nothing that’s addictive.”
