Pick up at the Frontera 2 box office on the 10th: Anurag Singh’s period was dramatic Edge 2, starring Sunny Deol, has been growing from strength to strength at the domestic box office. It is the highest-grossing Indian film this year, but compared to last year’s gold standard, Dhurandhar, it pales in comparison. Aditya Dhar’s period spy thriller Dhurandhar, which released in theaters on December 5, 2025, became the highest-grossing Indian film in domestic box office history.
Border 2 vs Dhurandhar opening weekend
Border 2 was released last Friday, January 23 before the Republic holiday on its first Monday. During its opening weekend (Friday to Sunday), the film accumulated Rs 121 crore at the domestic box office, comfortably surpassing the Rs 100 crore milestone. That was also the case for Dhurandhar, which earned Rs 103 million in its first three days, still Rs 18 million less than what Border 2 earned in the same period.
Border 2 vs Dhurandhar second weekend
However, things changed in the second weekend at the domestic box office. Border 2’s weekend 2 total stood at Rs 51 crore. It earned Rs 10.75 crore on Friday (day 8), Rs 17.75 crore on Saturday (day 9) and Rs 22.50 crore on Sunday (day 10). Thus, the second weekend of Border 2 experienced a drop of 57.75% compared to its first weekend, according to Sacnilk.
On the other hand, the Ranveer Singh starrer raked in Rs 81 crore in its second weekend at the domestic box office. The drop was only 21.46% since its first weekend. Thus, it earned Rs 30 crore more than Border 2 could manage in its second weekend. In fact, Dhurandhar was that rare Indian film that earned more in its second week than in its first week in India.
After earning Rs 207.25 crore in week 1, Dhurandhar bounced back even mid-week and concluded its week 2 with Rs 253.25 crore. While its opening week is lower than Border 2’s (Rs 224.25 crore), its bigger push will likely result in a higher second opening week than the Sunny Deol starrer.
Frontier 2 vs Dhurandhar so far
In its first 10 days at the domestic box office, Border 2 has accumulated Rs 275.25 crore. It is much less than what Dhurandhar achieved in the same period. That film crossed the coveted Rs 300 crore mark and earned Rs 338.75 crore in the same period last year. Like Dhurandhar, Border 2 also managed to score double digits every day at the Indian box office.

Whether he will manage to make it more like Dhurandhar for 28 days remains to be seen. But given its trajectory, the acid test of Frontera 2 would arrive today on its second Monday (the 11th) at the national box office. It is already facing competition from another film in the franchise, Abhiraj Minawala’s crime thriller Mardaani 3. which was released last Friday on January 30. The Rani Mukerji starrer earned Rs 17.50 crore during its opening weekend in India.
