The Federation of Film Employees of Kerala (FEFKA) has launched a scathing attack on the veteran actor, criticizing actors for allegedly causing budget overruns and long shooting schedules. Biju Menon for allegedly skipping movie promotions and causing losses to producers. In his speech to the media on Monday, February 9, the Secretary General of FEFKA B Unnikrishnan he allegedly suggested drafting new agreements that include actors charging Rs 1 lakh or more, along with producers, production controllers and directors, to keep a close eye on expenses and the shooting schedule, making it everyone’s responsibility to ensure that everything progresses according to previously agreed terms.

“A producer, who is also a director, lost Rs 25 lakh of the amount owed to him by a television channel because a prominent actor of Malayalam cinema did not attend the promotions. That same actor also skipped the promotions of the recent film (Valathu Vashathe Kallan) directed by joseph jeethu. I am talking about Biju Menon; I don’t hesitate to name it. He did not attend the promotions,” Unnikrishnan revealed.

He added: “Isn’t attending promotions a contractual obligation under the producers’ association? When that is not met… at least 10 per cent of the rigor towards that commitment shown during salary negotiations must be shown. Signing a contract while committing to promote a film and then not showing up, causing the producer’s losses to rise to Rs 25 lakh – these are the things that need to be corrected. If these issues are resolved, during next year’s discussions, the producers will voluntarily offer a Increase in 50 percent in remuneration.” Biju Menon, however, has not responded to the allegations so far.

During the press conference, FEFKA also announced that it had signed a new agreement with the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA), revising the working hours on film sets from 4 pm to 12 noon. The Hindu reported. This measure was taken after observing that such long work days physically and mentally affected those who worked on film sets.
