Lakshmipriya Devi’s directorial debut Boong on Tuesday bagged a nomination at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) 2026 in the Children and Family Film category. Jointly produced by Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainments, Boong has been nominated along with films Arc, lilo and stitch and Zootopia 2.
According to the Toronto International Film Festival, the film’s brief description reads: “Schoolboy Boong (Gugun Kipgen) doesn’t see long distances or state borders as major obstacles. At least not when it comes to giving his mother, Mandakini (Bala Hijam), the best surprise gift of all time: bringing back his father, Joykumar.”
“After leaving his hometown of Manipur, India, for the border town of Moreh, near Myanmar, in search of better job opportunities, Joykumar stopped communicating with the family. With rumors of his father’s death spreading, Boong refuses to accept that grim possibility and joins his best friend, Raju (Angom Sanamatum), a stranger from Rajasthan, to search for the truth,” it adds.
