vijay-mirador Jana Nayagan has been held by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) since it was submitted for certification in December. After many delays, the film is expected to release on February 20, according to reports. The reports emerged when the producers of actor Vijay’s swan song Jana Nayagan did not approach the single judge of the Madras High Court or the Supreme Court, even a week after the Chief Justice’s bench directed the petitioner to return to the single judge.
There were earlier rumors that KVN Productions had agreed to refer the film to a review committee. At the time The Hindu spoke to CBFC Chennai Regional Officer D Balamurali When asked about the same, he said that legally he was not allowed to say anything on the matter. The report quotes him as saying, “I don’t have any information. Even if I have it, I cannot reveal it at this time. Our entire examination process is confidential. We cannot reveal anything until a certificate is issued. Sharing such information is prohibited by law. The public will only know when the film is certified. At that time, we will communicate through our portal.”
Jana Nayagan was scheduled to release on January 9.
Jana Nayagan was first presented to the censor board for certification on December 18. As per procedure, the film was then viewed by a five-person examination committee and it was recommended that it could be given a U/A certificate, after some editing. The makers submitted an edited version of the film on December 24.
However, in the first week of January they learned that the film was going to be presented to a review committee. This occurred after a member of the review committee raised objections to certain content in the film and believed that his opinions had not been properly taken into account.
Jana Nayagan was postponed for not getting the censorship certificate
With just 4 days left for the release, the makers moved the Madras High Court. Shortly after, the creators announced that they would be delaying the film from its original January 9 release date.
On January 9, Justice PT Asha of Madras HC directed the CBFC to grant U/A certificate to the film. However, Additional Solicitor General ARL Sundaresan, who appeared before the certification board, approached the division bench and obtained a stay of release.

Following this, the farmers approached the Supreme Court to appeal against the division bench’s order, but SC refused to consider the plea and redirected them to Madras HC.
After the Madras HC division bench heard the matter, the court sent the matter for fresh consideration.
