Arijit Singh has decided to make his own music and return to Indian classical roots instead of singing dozens of film songs every year. The famous singer announced his retirement from playback singing on Tuesday, to the surprise and disappointment of his fans. However, he later clarified that for them they were never his “fans,” but simply his “listeners,” members of his “extended family.”

This approach is in line with its Broader philosophy linked to life.. Despite being the highest-paid singer in India and one of the highest-paid in the world, Arijit has always maintained a humble lifestyle, staying connected to his roots and contributing to society. Here’s a look at his net worth and how the singer’s rather deep-rooted lifestyle belies his professional reputation.

Arijit Singh Net Worth

According to Livemint, Arijit’s estimated net worth is around Rs 414 million, with annual earnings of up to Rs 70 million. The net worth also includes multiple assets including a palatial home in Navi. Bombay worth Rs 8 million and a collection of luxury cars (including a Range Rover and a Mercedes) worth Rs 3.4 million.

Most of his earnings come from song streams, concerts, and brand endorsements. Arijit has lent his voice to over 300 songs over the last 15 years in languages like Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali. He charges between Rs 8 and Rs 10 lakh for each song recording. Given that he has already released six songs this month, his earnings on that front stand at Rs 48 lakh to Rs 60 lakh by 2026 alone so far.

Last year, Arijit lent his voice to as many as 34 songs, including 11 non-film tracks. That makes his earnings last year between Rs 2.72 crore and Rs 3.40 crore from streaming singing alone. Clearly, playback singing is not Arijit’s main source of income. So even if you retire from that part of your profession, you have enough to keep you going.

Another major source of income for Arijit is live concerts. Last year, music composer Monty Sharma claimed that Arijit charges Rs 2 crore for each live performance. However, for the two-hour concert called Arijit Singh Live, he charges even up to 14 million rupees, making him one of the highest-paid artists not only in India but all over the world. Arijit also earns significantly from the endorsements he does with multiple brands like Coca-Cola and Samsung.

Arijit Singh’s humble lifestyle

Despite earning tens of millions of rupees every year, Arijit Singh believes in living simply and staying connected to his roots. His primary residence remains his hometown of Jiaganj, Murshidabad in West Bengal. He travels mainly for work commitments. “He’s a recluse. He works from his village, which is great,” said composer AR Rahman in his recent interview with BBC Asian Network.

It was previously reported that the singer’s children go to a local school in Murshidabad.

Even British pop star Ed Sheeran had to travel to Arijit’s village in West Bengal to collaborate with him on last year’s hit “Sapphire.” In the music video, Arijit is seen driving Sheeran through the streets of the town on a scooter. In his native place, Arijit also runs an affordable restaurant called Heshel, which serves food to economically disadvantaged classes for just Rs 40.

Arijit also runs an NGO called Tatwamasi Foundation with the aim of “empowering the needy and poor youth, children and community to realize their true potential by providing a platform spanning education, healthcare, sports and environmental initiatives,” according to his official website. “I want to generate money for others without touching that money, that’s the idea. I want to work in health and build small hospitals everywhere so that emergencies are taken care of,” Arijit said on The Music Podcast in 2024.

What’s next for Arijit Singh?

Given his net worth and humble lifestyle, Arijit has nothing to worry about life after retiring from playback singing. He now plans to focus more on his music label Oriyon Music, where he composed and produced in addition to singing. “He’s a great musician. He’s a producer. He knows the art of producing,” Rahman revealed in the interview.

“I wanted to become a publisher,” Arijit said on The Music Podcast in 2024. “I want to explore and curate good, fascinating musical things. That would create a culture,” he added. He also divulged his plans to start a music school as he is deeply involved in music education. “Every time I start my school, it is very important to have a ground there. We need to play sports there. Because once we sing after playing, it is easier on the lungs,” he added.

As the most followed artist on Spotify, Arijit has surpassed global sensations like Sheeran, Taylor Fastand Ariana Grande. Even YouTube charts show that his songs were streamed 15 billion times last year, a number that continues to increase each year. The Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 gives you a lifetime royalty, which can even go up to Rs 75 crore per year from a single streaming platform.

Arijit also revealed that he also has plans to develop film projects in the near future. “When I first saw Satyajit Ray’s films, I changed as a person. Then I realized that films have the power to change someone, for better or worse. But they do impact your life,” Arijit said on The Music Podcast. He also referred to filmmakers Rajkumar Hirani and James Cameron as the influences behind him starting his production company Oriyon Edutainment.
