Some familiar Indian names have recently emerged in the Epstein Files, linked to the investigation involving millionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, released into the public domain by the US Department of Justice. Last Friday, Three Million Additional Pages of Epstein Files Released under the Epstein Records Transparency Act, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19, 2025.
More than 2,000 videos and 1,80,000 images are included in the additional publication. Combined with previous releases, this brings the total output to almost 3.5 million pages. However, while some names appearing in the files may have direct or indirect close allegiance to Epstein’s criminal acts, not all names can be painted with the same brush.
Notably, the three names from the Indian entertainment industry, which have emerged in the Epstein Files, have fairly remote associations with Epstein or even his inner circle. If you look into the finer details, this is exactly where the names of these three Indian directors appear in the Epstein Files.
Anurag Kashyap
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, best known for directing critically acclaimed films such as Black Friday (2004), Dev.D (2009) and the Gangs of Wasseypur franchise (2012), was recently referred to as “the Bollywood guy” in the Epstein Files. Kashyap’s name is mentioned only in passing as “a famous Bollywood director” along with computer scientist Ben Goertzel, researcher Bruce Damer and DJ Spooky.
Kashyap was mentioned as a possible guest at a proposed event in Shanghai, which included workshops on Buddhism, technology and medicine. It is part of email exchanges between Epstein and psychiatrist Giuseppe Bersani, and educators Gino Yu and Ornella Corazza. However, there is no evidence of Kashyap’s attendance at any of these events.
Mira Nair
Another name cropping up more frequently is filmmaker Mira Nair, best known for directing Monsoon Wedding (2001), The Namesake (2006) and A Suitable Boy (2020). According to the files, he attended a movie “after-party” at the home of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, as mentioned in one of the emails.
The after-party took place after a film screening, likely to be Nair’s 2010 Hollywood film Amelia, starring Hillary Swank as aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, opposite Richard Gere. Also present at the event were not only Nair and the protagonists of the film, but also former US president Bill Clinton and the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. “The film had a tremendous reaction, although women like it much more,” states the email exchanged between publicist Peggy Siegal and the email address “jeevacation@gmail.com.”

While Nair’s passing mention also does not imply any misconduct or close ties to Epstein and his associates like Maxwell, his name has been hyped online thanks to his association with American politics. His son, former rapper Zohran Mamdani, was recently named mayor of New York City. Even AI-generated images of Mira and Zohran with Epstein, Maxwell and others are circulating on social media.
Nandita Das
The third name to emerge from the Indian entertainment landscape in Epstein Files is that of actress and filmmaker Nandita Das. But his link with Epstein is limited to the fact that they were both invited as speakers by Jem Bendell, a professor of sustainability at the University of Cumbria, at the Lake District Festival in the United Kingdom, along with author Charles Eisenstein and public relations guru Lynne Frank.
