There seems to be a certain sense of fear in the air as Bollywood stars receive more and more threats from criminals. Recently, actor Ranveer Singh received a threatening voice message on WhatsApp, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Now actor Aayush Sharma, brother-in-law of Salman Khan, has received a similar threat via email. Police are currently investigating the origin of the mail. Meanwhile, the Western Cinema Employees Federation has swung into action to speak on behalf of the Hindi film fraternity.

The sender of the email demanded a ransom from the actor in the form of cryptocurrencies. They used ProtonMail, which is part of a VPN service, so they masked the identity of the sender to some extent. Addressing the investigation, a senior officer said, “The crime branch team is in touch with the family and doing whatever is legally required. The cyber team has been trying to trace the identity and location of the sender.” Police initially said this attempt is not related to any underworld faction or gang. However, according to PTI, the sender of the email has since claimed to be part of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police are still investigating whether this claim is true or not, as they maintain that it could just be an attempt by someone up to mischief.

Meanwhile, the FWICE has contacted the Maharashtra CM. Devendra Fadnavisin light of these events. In a letter addressed to the CM, they wrote: “In recent days, several eminent and well-known personalities in the film, television and digital media industry have reportedly received threats and have been subjected to alarming security fears. The prevailing atmosphere of fear is starting to affect filming schedules, production planning and overall morale within the industry.” A few days ago, five shots were fired at director Rohit Shetty’s house in Bombay.

The body urged the CM to take note of the issues and take effective measures to ensure the safety of industry members. They went on to say: “In recent days, several eminent and well-known personalities in the film, television and digital media industries have reportedly received threats and been the subject of alarming security scares.”
