State signs Rs 30 liter investment commitment in Davos: CM | Mumbai News

Maharashtra received investment commitments worth Rs 30 lakh crore in various sectors at the World Economic Forum summit in Switzerland in Davos, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday. Nearly 83 per cent of the investment component promised through MoUs and bilateral partnerships has come in the form of foreign direct investment, Fadnavis said. The promise invests employment for one-third lakh people in the state, he added.

Addressing the media in Switzerland, Fadnavis said, “The State has taken the lead in securing investment commitments worth Rs 30 lakh crore across multiple sectors including industries, agriculture, services, technology, healthcare, education, energy, etc. Additionally, we hope to finalize investments of Rs seven to ten lakh crore in the coming days. Our preliminary discussions have been completed.”

Reflecting on the questions often asked about how many of these MoUs have actually been made and are working, Fadnavis said, “Of the total Rs 16 crore investments during Davos 2025, 75 per cent of the projects have been fructified. They are in various stages. In the remaining 25 per cent, the reason was geopolitical developments that led to conflicts or tensions that delayed the process. But none of these projects have been withdrawn.”

“From the moment of signing the project to its implementation, the process period is three to seven years. We have to take these norms into account,” he added.

Clarifying the allegation that most of the investments came from domestic players, Fadnavis said, “The state has signed bilateral MoUs/partnerships with more than 18 countries including US, UK, UAE, Denmark, Netherlands, Singapore, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan, France, Canada, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and others.”

Asserting that the promised investment covers entire Maharashtra, the Chief Minister said, “The backward Vidarbha region alone accounts for 13 per cent of the total investment component. In northern Maharashtra we have managed to get projects for Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Malegaon and Nandurbar.” Drought-prone Marathwada region will also benefit with an investment inflow of Rs 55,000 crore, Konkan division with investments of Rs 3.5 lakh crore and Nagpur division with investments of Rs 2.5 lakh crore, which is good news for the state, he added.

During his tour of Davos from January 17 to 22, Fadnavis participated in conversations with 20 of the world’s leading CEOs. The focus was on expanding the strategic partnership in key areas of infrastructure, artificial intelligence and innovation and technology. Fadnavis said participation in digital border governance was especially important.

Terming his conversation with Professor Josh Makower, co-founder and director of Stanford Biodesign, at Global MedTech Leadership Interaction as insightful, the CM said, “Stanford Biodesign has submitted an expression of interest to partner with the state government. This marks the beginning of the Stanford-Maharashtra Biodesign Center and a shared commitment to building the future of healthcare, leveraging world-class engineering talent and enhancing manufacturing capabilities to drive health technology innovation and global impact.”
