The NCP’s PMC unit unanimously decided to urge the party to appoint deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar as the party’s national chief, which fell vacant after the death of Ajit Pawar.

“Taking into account all the factors in depth, it is believed that the leadership of Sunetra Pawar, wife of Ajit Pawar and the new Deputy Chief Minister, who is loyal to the ideological tradition of Ajit Pawar, understands the organizational culture of the party and can maintain moderation, balance and stability in difficult times, should be the national president of the NCP. It will be in the best interest of the party, will be acceptable and will provide stability,” the NCP leader in the PMC said.

She has always selflessly contributed to the party and its leadership from behind the scenes, and it is her personality that can unite all sections, Nikam said and added, “Therefore, considering the interests of the party, organizational continuity, legal aspects and emotional trust of the party workers, in accordance with the constitution of the Nationalist Congress Party, this proposal to elect Sunetra Pawar as the National President of the Nationalist Congress Party was placed before all the corporators of the Nationalist Congress Party in the Pune Municipal Corporation.”

He said that the proposal was unanimously approved and in this meeting a resolution was passed for this approved proposal to be officially sent to the National Executive Committee of the Nationalist Congress Party for further appropriate decisions and necessary measures.

The unfortunate accidental death of Ajit Pawar, national president, guide and source of inspiration of the Nationalist Congress Party on January 28, is an irreparable loss to the NCP and the political life of the country. His demise has cast a pall of sadness over the party, creating a huge void at the organizational level, Nikam said.

“Throughout his political career, he staunchly defended the party’s ideological direction, its organizational strength and the trust of ordinary workers, guiding the party through many difficult times with unwavering resolve.”

“The NCP is a party that follows the Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar principles of social justice, equality and brotherhood as well as Yashwantrao Chavan’s tradition of ideal, moderate and inclusive leadership. Preserving this ideological tradition, maintaining the unity of the party and sustaining the emotional and moral confidence of the workers has become extremely necessary at this juncture,” Nikam said.

“To avoid any adverse impact on the decision-making process, organizational functioning and public image of the party due to the vacancy in the post of national chairman, it is essential to elect a new leader immediately, but entirely within the legal and constitutional framework. According to the relevant provisions of the constitution of the Nationalist Congress Party, if the post of national chairman becomes vacant, the authorized body of the party has the right to elect a new chairman by appropriate resolution,” he added.
