Shark Tank India has witnessed several success storiesand many entrepreneurs have succeeded. While for some it was a necessity, others had a passion for entrepreneurship. Saket Saurabh has had a similar journey and his story is now being shared on social media, even though his episode of Shark Tank India is yet to air. Saket shared a video on his social media where he revealed that he previously worked in a job that paid him Rs 50 lakh per year, but he left it to start a food business.
In a chat with Hindustan Times, Saket shared that after graduating from NIFT in 2014, he started his own company, which was later acquired by another company. The brand hired him as a product manager and he earned approximately Rs 52 lakh per year in that job.
An innovator at heart, Saket wanted to start another business, so he started with a side job in Gurugram. He shared that this was a “generic cafe” where they sold everything. But soon after, they started focusing on developing a momo business through carts. “That car did a big business. We earned between Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000 every day,” he said.
“During the first year we opened several cars,” Saket recalls. “This was the bright side, but the cart business was also volatile. We had several problems: some days the authorities would remove the carts, we had staffing problems and sometimes the weather did not cooperate. From an operational point of view, there were many challenges.”
He soon realized that if he wanted to build a business worth Rs 500 crore, he couldn’t do it through carts, so he went ahead with setting up stores. Now that idea has turned into 40 carts, 20 smaller establishments and two quick-service restaurants.
Talking about the revenue from his business, Saket said, “In the financial year 2023-24, during the three months of January, February and March, we earned Rs 16 lakh. Last year, we earned Rs 2.2 crore. This year, we have already earned Rs 2.2 crore, and we will close this year with Rs 3 crore. So in two and a half years, we have earned more than Rs 5 crore.”
