The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has revoked the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital for violating regulations. The move comes after the university failed to meet essential academic and administrative requirements, despite being given multiple opportunities to improve. This decision will be effective from the 2026-27 academic year.

The order revoking membership was issued on Friday by MUHS Registrar Rajendra Bangal. The inspections revealed significant deficiencies in infrastructure, teaching modalities and compliance with regulatory standards. MUHS stated that deficiencies persisted even after previous warnings and deadlines for corrective action.

Beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, the university will not be able to admit new students to its undergraduate or graduate dental programs. However, students who are currently enrolled will not be affected academically and will be transferred to other private dental colleges in Maharashtra.

Reportedly, the professors and staff members of the university had officially received their salaries for the period from August 2018 to November 2018. However, the university subsequently claimed this salary through checks, promising to soon return the amount, which they are yet to receive.

Additionally, teaching and non-teaching staff at the university have not received salaries since 2024. Complaints about unpaid salaries were heard by the MUHS and the institution was given time to resolve the issue. As no satisfactory progress was reported, the decision was made.

The university must pay all outstanding salaries to its teaching and non-teaching staff and submit a report. Only after this will the college be allowed to submit a proposal for the renewal of its membership. The order has clarified that a decision will be taken after the necessary inspection of this proposal.
