A man arrested in a murder case escaped from police custody in Sinhagad Road area of Pune city on Wednesday, police said, identifying the accused as Aniket Mahesh Waghmare, 26, a resident of Hingne Khurd.
A team from Baner police station arrested Waghmare and his aide Tushar alias Sonya Sharad Patole, 24, from Karve Nagar, on January 11 in connection with the murder of Aditya Ganesh Bhagat, 22, a resident of Indrayani Nagar in Bhosari.
According to police, Aditya Ganesh Bhagat was found dead at Tamhini Ghat in Raigad district on January 11. Later, a case of murder was registered at Mangaon police station in Raigad.
A police investigation revealed that Aniket Mahesh Waghmare, Sonya Sharad Patole and a third accused, Prajwal Hambir, allegedly murdered Aditya Ganesh Bhagat at Tamhini Ghat following a financial dispute and then tried to sell his car in Baner area.
But acting on a tip-off, Baner’s police team laid a trap and nabbed Aniket Mahesh Waghmare and Sonya Sharad Patole. The police team handed over the two accused to Mangaon police in Raigad for further investigation.
On Wednesday, a team of Raigad police took Aniket Mahesh Waghmare to Pune for research. Police went to Waghmare’s house in Hingne Khurd to conduct a search. But, around 6:30 pm, Waghmare allegedly pushed police constable Shrikant Kirawale of Mangaon police station and escaped from the spot.
Constable Kirawale then filed a fresh case against Aniket Mahesh Waghmare at Sinhagad police station in Pune city for escaping from police custody.

Police inspector Ulhas Kadam said that Aniket Mahesh Waghmare was being sought. Waghmare was booked for two more crimes in the past, according to police.
