The Ahilyanagar district police have filed a non-cognisable offense (NC) against three persons following allegations of fake voting cards found during the holding of municipal elections on Thursday.
The offense in this case was lodged at Tofkhana police station in Ahilyanagar.
As stated in the report, the police have identified two suspects in this case as Ganesh Shekade (34) and Satish Shekade (32), both residents of Mhasobachi Wadi in Ashti taluka in Beed district of Maharashtra. The identity of the third suspects is not yet known, police said.
The complaint in this case was filed by Chandrakant alias Kaka Shelke, candidate of the deputy chief minister-led Shiv Sena. Eknath Shinde.
A controversy erupted after Shelke claimed to have snatched as many as 31 fake voting cards from an unidentified person sitting in a rickshaw at Parijat Chowk in Ahilyanagar town around 1:45 pm on Thursday. Shelke said the suspect fled the scene.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena activists nabbed Ganesh and Satish, who were allegedly moving suspiciously at the polling booth of Anand Vidyalay school in ward number 3. The suspects were handed over to the police.
“The suspects have been booked under section 174 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (punishment for undue influence or impersonation in an election). Further investigation is underway in this case,” said police inspector Jagdish Bhambal of Tofkhana police station.

Sudhir Patil, election officer of ward number 3, said that an investigation has been launched into the incident. Patil said police detained the suspects for further investigation. The police said that the veracity of the 31 voting cards seized in this case is being investigated.
