अरावतीच्या  मध्यवर्ती कारागृहात विविध गुन्ह्यांमध्ये शिक्षा भोगत असलेल्या बंदीवानांपैकी पाच बंदीवानांंनी आपल्या कलेच्या माध्यमातून  शाडू मातीच्या आकर्षक गणेश मूर्ती तयार करण्याचे काम सुरू केले आहे. या गणेश मूर्ती सर्वसामान्य नागरिकांसाठी १० सप्टेंबरपासून विक्रीला उपलब्ध राहणार असल्याचे कारागृह यांनी सांगितले आहे.


अमरावती च्या मध्यवर्ती कारागृहात सुतारकाम, विणकाम, एलईडी लाईट तयार करणे यासह अन्य कामे कैद्यांच्या माध्यमातून केली जातात. याव्यतिरिक्त शेतीद्वारे कारागृहाला दरवर्षी लाखोंचा महसूल मिळतो.

कारागृहातील महिला बंदी दरवर्षी राख्या तयार करतात. त्याचप्रमाणे गणेशोत्सवापूर्वी कारागृहातील काही कैद्यांना गणेशमूर्ती बनविण्याची कला येते का, याबाबत विचारणा केली असता पाच कैदी समोर आले. त्यामुळे मूर्ती तयार करण्यासाठी लागणारे कच्चे साहित्य प्रशासनाने त्यांना पुरवले व मागील दीड महिन्यांपासून मूर्तींना सुबक व मोहक आकार देण्याचे काम सुरू झाले होते. आतापर्यंत ५० ते ५५ मूर्तींना रंगरंगोटी झाली असून, अजूनही दहा दिवस मूर्ती तयार करण्याचे काम सुरू राहणार आहे. मूर्ती घडवण्याचे कसब काही बंदीवानांच्या अंगी असल्याचे यावेळी दिसून आले. कारागृह प्रशासनाच्या पुढाकाराने प्रथमच होणार गणेश मूर्तींची विक्री; १० सप्टेंबरपासून विक्रीला होणार उपलब्ध राहणार आहे.
